| Salzburg Overview |
An independent state until 1816, Salzburg is now the 4th largest city in Austria. This picturesque city is dissected by the Salzach River, and has its small compact old town on the left bank and most of the cities attractions and businesses on the right bank.
Salzburg’s independence allowed it to develop an Italian feel and because of this it is often referred to as the ‘German Rome’. The city has been maligned to as boring and lifeless but in modern times nothing could be further from the truth, with an exciting nightlife and fantastic restaurants. Salzburg also loves music, as you would expect from the birthplace of Mozart and setting of ‘The Sound of Music’. |
